Rogers weaves a haunting story about the mysterious disappearance of a loved one, and the unexpected consequences that bring a family closer together.

What responsibility do artists have for the impact of their work? A gifted New York writer attempts to defend his young adult novel to the same small American town hell bent on banning his work, causing an explosive encounter from which no one in the small Midwestern town will recover.

What’s Next Lab |
|
What's Next Lab marks the reappearance of an old friend. In 1990 Dexter Bullard began "At The Next Lab" as an opportunity for Next Theatre to present plays in a laboratory style setting that were thought to be too daring to produce. Plays such as Killer Joe by Tracy Letts and Bouncers by John Godber found a home at Next Lab, introducing Chicagoland audiences to many incredibly exciting playwrights in a barebones and intimate environment.
As Next Theatre has grown to be recognized as a national destination for the most socially provocative work from nationally recognized playwrights (In The Blood by Suzan-Lori Parks, The Overwhelming by J.T. Rogers), What's Next Lab will be a launching pad for the most daring and socially relevant work our Chicagoland playwrights can write.
What's Next Lab will produce three new plays per year, presented in rotating repertory, laboratory-style productions. Each play will be paired with a local director and designer and will also be given readings and talkbacks exclusively presented to Next Theatre subscribers throughout the year.
To see the most exciting, fresh-off-the-printer, socially provocative, and artistically adventurous work from the most exciting new local voices, please join us for an old friend made new again. |
